In 90s and 00s, the trilogy got three prequels, and although fans tore them apart, those movies remain a part of the franchise. That first epic space opera took moviegoers to a galaxy far, far away, launching two more films and a massive amount of merchandise. When the first Star Wars movie premiered in 1977, it was likely that no one involved expected the film to launch a franchise that would still be going strong in 2019.
